Sexy Lumber $ Out, Sexy Heating $ In

With inflation it’s like adjusting to Daylight Savings: You should prep to “spring forward & fall backward.” E.g., now inflated lumber prices are falling to pre-pandemic level meaning market recession worsening rest of year …

As one WSJ piece noted, “rising interest rates have taken an ax to one of the pandemic’s hottest commodities.” That is, lumber prices that have been skyrocketing & driving up housing costs along with rising interest rates, has suddenly reached a critical stage in which the bubble gets popped. The article concluded: The tumbling lumber price of today is “pointing to a sharp slowdown in construction.” Said Michael Goodman, director of specialty products at wholesaler Sherwood Lumber Corps., “The sexy lumber world is coming to an end …”

So, apparently, is the sexy world of cheap home heating. As winter is approaching us, Fox News warns families to “brace for a large heating bill.” That’s because the average cost to heat a home this winter will increase by 17.2% since last winter, according to the National Energy Assistance Directors Assn.
