Shot In Dark Gun Control Law Dems’ Dilemma?
Swing district Dems beg Biden & Pelosi to stop “doing something” on gun control push knowing shots in dark won’t solve school shooters’ societal & mental health issues yet disarming folks weaponizes gangs even more?
Well, maybe the worried Dem candidates are more worried about what the VOTERS think about a possibly unconstitutional banning of guns as President Biden suggested in a national address on Thursday night. Yet, the irony in more than 20 House Dems calling for Biden & Pelosi to “split” the many gun control proposals now on their wish list into “smaller bills” might make some sense in that their letter to the House Speaker argues: “As Members of the majority party, we must make a good faith effort to invite our colleagues across the aisle to join us in debating the merits of each bill and in voting for each bill.” Or else? Or else all of the proposals in one big omnibus bill will likely never pass through Congress?
Ms. Pelosi signaled in reply she’s willing to go piecemeal as requested, although as Fox News noted, even if and when, “it’s unlikely anything passed by the House will become law” because of ongoing GOP opposition in the Senate, which is arguing the Dems are using the Uvalde school shooting tragedy to pass gun control legislation that will do little if anything to stop the next tragedy, while ignoring the underlying social & mental health issues that cause them.
