Should COP28 Enlist God To Save Earth?

Is there enough tea in China to get world to save itself by cutting carbon emissions by 1.5C any time soon? Or ever, since global emissions are still rising 1% each year? Kerry goes to COP28 to keep “mo” toward reaching goal by 2050. Mo BS?

With God, all things are possible. With US Climate Czar Kerry & his UN allies, not so much. That 1.5C number (or 2 degrees Fahrenheit) is supposedly key, of course. More than a decade ago & nearly 50 years since global warming became a worry among many scientists, the UN’s climate gods chose the number as a “speed limit for rising global temperatures beyond which some effects of climate change start to become irreversible. In 2021, President Biden went on a limb by promising the world he'd personally commit the U.S. to cutting its own emissions by 50% and achieving “net zero” by 1950 (note the almost lyrical symmetry in that one man, God-like pledge).

The problem is that even some of the most optimistic scientists are now conceding the ballyhooed 1.5C target is improbable, at least, according to the WSJ. Not that the scientific community has ever been in full agreement on the science. Reports the newspaper: “Recent studies forecast that the 1.5C threshold will be surpassed on a permanent basis within the next decade.” The latest UN emissions gap warnings now says countries must slash carbon emissions by 42% by 2030 to have any chance of keeping within the 1.5C limit. Think of the TRILLIONS of dollars already spent globally on this shifting goal post yet emissions are still going UP not DOWN? John Christensen, co-author of the latest UN emissions report warns “there’s not going to be enough public money” to get the job done & the “private sector” has to be enlisted to kick in. Fat chance, unless Heaven itself is the incentive. Maybe we’ll have to enlist God after all?
