Show Me The Money Green Works Work?

Elon Musk says world needs more oil & gas as well as a more responsible transition to renewable energy? Get real aka specific Elon? What about a “1% Acid Test” to justify future EV or other global warming initiatives?

“I think we actually need more oil & gas, not less, but simultaneously moving as fast as we can to a sustainable energy economy,” the Tesla CEO told a EU conference in Stavanger, Norway. As the WSJ reported, Mr. Musk explained that work on developing battery-storage technology is key to making the most of investments in wind, solar and geothermal energy. “I’m also pronuclear,” he added, “especially right now” as the EU and other parts of the world face an energy crisis that include fears of outages and other service disruptions.

All fine & good as far as it goes. But, as the WSJ noted, the topic of what to do next is “politically sensitive” … and global … as nuclear-rich France grapples with rationing, Germany was forced to delay the closing of its last 3 nuclear power plants thanks to Russia’s natural gas pipeline shutdown, and several states in the US that transitioned to green energy too quickly, including Texas, are now fearing mass outages. Meanwhile, debate rages in the US over the extreme cost of its new green spending spree, but its lack of a proven substantial impact on global warming. Maybe what we need is to borrow a slogan from real estate brokers and insist future energy policies be based on a showing of “Proof, Proof, Proof” they will not only be cost effective but actually work in meaningfully protecting the environment.
