Shrinking Brains & Skunk Scent Sense

A BIG brain shrinkage reported & maybe it helps explain woke imbecility? Researchers say average brain has decreased by size of a lime in recent millennia, surprisingly thanks to “advancements” making life easier.

As the WSJ story notes, “The development of bigger brains has long been considered a hallmark of our species’ increased intelligence … But a growing body of evidence suggests our brains recently changed in an unexpected way: They diminished in size sometime following the end of the last Ice Age.” Many anthropologists had once thought the change might be due to the rise of agriculture, less dependency on a more challenging hunting & gathering practices 10K yrs ago. Yet, any farmer will tell you their work can be just as taxing as Daniel Boone’s. Led by a team of researchers from Dartmouth, however, it’s now posited that our brain shrinkage may be more likely due to “booming eras for ancient civilizations in North Africa, the Middle East & South America – complex societies that … got so cooperatively organized in the past 3K yrs that we began relying on what the researchers call ‘collective intelligence.’” Says one of the co-researchers from Boston U, “It is the idea that a group of people is smarter than the smartest person in the group.” Hence, there’s theoretically less need for the human brain to work in problem solving.

The researchers don’t say it, but, doesn’t the flip side of their hypothesis suggest a group of elites can emerge and lead the larger group of sheep? If so, does it sound a lot like today’s “group think”? And, our woke elites from Ivy League land? And, the genesis of PC mania & cancel culture? Bet a Bud Light AI is coming for our brains next?
