Sly Sylvester Stallone Still Rocks
Stallone’s Rocky had a slow brain yet IDs everyman’s top frustration as “not getting the opportunity to fail.” Recall bartender pouring a drink as Rocky Qs whether HE’d take a hopeless shot at Apollo Creed: “You want me to take a shot? All right, I’ll take a shot …”
The Oscar-nominee was in Philly to celebrate the city’s inaugural “Rocky Day” & in doing so told Fox News the reasons “why his iconic character, Rocky Balboa, still connects with fans as an underdog.” As Stallone said in a speech to applauding fans from the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art where Rocky triumphantly runs of the steps while training for the improbable fight with the undefeated World Heavyweight champion: “Life is a fight … It’s a tough fight & get ready [because] you’re going to win some & you’re gonna lose a lot. But the real victory is in never giving up & going the distance for yourself, your loved ones … standing at the top of these steps you’re reminded that all things are possible … [So,] keep. Punching!”
So, how does this wisdom still resonate with folks today? Explained Stallone: “There are certain conundrums, issues, problems, journeys, challenges that everybody from every country, every culture has to face. And they may be somewhat different, but they usually deal with the same kind of – I just want to achieve something, I want people to be proud of me, I want to raise a family, I want to support my daughter. It’s this kind of fear – or [thinking] I’m really nobody inside. People look at me but, on the inside, I feel weak & shallow, that’s what the character [Rocky] was. He even said, ‘I’m going to lose, I know I’m not good enough, and people may feel that way, but at least [like Rocky] they want to try.”
