“Soul Food” is a regularly updated calendar of meditations sometimes questioning conventional wisdom & often suggesting eternal values.

Sunday: Don’t some efforts to rewrite history repeat themselves & often become myths that, in turn, need to be debunked?

Tuesday: At times of crisis, myths have their historical importance.” Winston Churchill

Wednesday: Britain did not fight alone in 1940 but with the help of a gigantic imperial network made up of millions of souls, including Canadians, Australians, Indians, West Indians, Nigerians & South Africans.

Thursday: Notion Napoleon was a “little” man bent on conquering the world was British PR & a cover for its own colonial ambitions. The “Little Corporal” was 5 ft 7 inches, the average height of a French citizen at the time.

Friday: Venice’s Bridge of Sighs WAS route taken by prisoners to trial but poet Byron dreamed up its name.

Saturday: Geo Washington loved ice cream but his favorite flavor wasn’t “oyster” as often assigned to him.
