T Or F? WSJ Says Trump Thumped Never To Win Again
The Wall Street Journal editorial board’s scathing op ed, “Trump’s non-vindication,” argues No. 45 will “never win another national election” & lists many reasons why. Without arguing those points that Congress already debated ad nausea, may we suggest they may be right, but for the wrong bottom line reason?
The WSJ’s main indictment is that, while “for 4 years Mr. Trump’s conduct stayed largely within constitutional bounds—no matter his rhetorical excesses and Democratic efforts to drive him from office by violating norms & flogging conspiracy theories. But, [it was] Mr. Trump’s dishonest challenge to the 2020 election, even after multiple defeats in court, clearly broke those bounds and culminated in the Jan. 6 riot.”
But, maybe that nutshell read is as “flawed” as Mr. Trump’s excesses after his 2016 election. Because it doesn’t answer the “why” and assumes Mr. Trump himself accepted the 2016 defeat of Hillary Clinton. If he did, he sure never acted like he got the memo or he believed it was real. Rather, Mr. Trump remained the no holds barred battler who couldn’t overlook a single slight throughout his 4 years in the WH…as if the war hadn’t been won. So, he NEVER BECAME THE STATESMAN THE NATION WANTED FOR ANOTHER 4 YEARS. Yet, what if he ever did learn how to ignore or cut his defeated enemies some slack ala a Lincoln (Abe’s pic was staring him in the face every day) so that he could also be rewarded with a second term FOR HIS POLICIES? Seems impossible? Especially to Mr. Trump's many new & old enemies? Yet, could that be the unanswered (GOP) elephant in the room? And, why even a past supporter like the WSJ would already close the book on Mr. Trump in 2024?
