Tech Concerns Throw EVs Under Bus

When it rains EVs it pours? US regulators tie Tesla’s autopilot to over dozen fatalities & hundreds of crashes while car dealers tell Fox Bus gas cars drive better & are more economical than EVs? Besides, “I wouldn’t feel safe” in one.

The EV news isn’t entirely a pile up, er, pile on. Said the Fox report, “Car dealers have expressed both caution & optimism about electric vehicles.” The AC-DC assessments are mainly about the old bugaboo that “the technology still needs to advance.” You think? The Tesla autopilot isn’t about EVs in general, yet those dirty words “technology kinks” keeps surfacing & playing havoc with potential customers’ minds. According to dealers interviewed, folks just don’t feel comfortable having an EV as the sole car in the household. Abdul Cummings, the owner of a Jersey City dealership noted that “few people he has encountered feel confident buying pre-owned electric, especially because of worries over its “range” before needing recharge.

The bombshell WSJ report about Tesla’s Autopilot’s safety isn’t helping. Said the newspaper, NHTSA launched a new probe into the adequacy of 2 million vehicles recalled in December, after discovering more crashed linked to the autopilot software’s “controversial technology” that is suspected of having contributed to “at least 14 fatalities, several dozen injuries & hundreds of crashes.” The government report ostensibly “uncovered a trend of “avoidable crashes involving hazards that would have been visible to an attentive driver.” Say, wasn’t it yesterday I saw an autopilot commercial showing a happy as a lark EV driver sitting back in his seat listening to bongo music instead of paying attention to the road?
