The Original, Jesus, Wished Us All A Merry Christmas

A nostalgic Jesse Watters recalled the grand old days before PC madness & urged “Let’s wish one another a ‘Merry Christmas’, not ‘Happy Holidays’”. And, while we DO wish all a happy holiday, it was Jesus after all who started it all … for all of us.

The Fox News commentator could not resist recently recalling on “The Five” how “My mom was very much a Christmas traditionalist & very community spirited.” In his book “All American Christmas” he shared his growing up experiences & fun family times during the Christmas season, including “going door-to-door in our neighborhood in Philadelphia to sing Christmas carols.” As Watters’ carolers broke into song & neighbors looked on, there was undoubtedly a feeling of brotherhood if not brotherly love in (of all places) the City of Brotherly Love.

I too have such fond memories while growing up on the South Side of Chicago. One was laying under the decorated Christmas tree while listening to Bing Crosby’s “Adeste Fideles” and realizing, even as a young boy, the coming of Christmas Day stood for something much larger than myself, certainly larger than Santa soon bearing gifts. It was, at its essence, all about God coming to earth in the humblest of circumstances to share our dreams as well as our fears unto His own horrific human death … and to eventually merrily bring us all to share in His own home in Heaven.
