Tijuana Crime Ala Safe Harbor USA?

One of the more ironic State Department warnings was to travelers of “crime & kidnapping” in Mexico when an American might be as likely to be shot at or mugged while walking along a “safe harbor city’s” streets …

If anyone reads the newspapers, they know that they face increased dangers of “homicide, kidnappings, carjacking & robberies” in BOTH places. To be fair, the State Dept’s latest travel advisory focuses on a number of identified “states” in Mexico, & esp their more isolated regions. Still, only last week, Americans were warned to literally shelter-in-place in Tijuana & the surrounding area due to reports of “multiple vehicle fires, roadblocks and heavy police activity.”

True, that Tijuana advisory doesn’t exactly mirror conditions in LA, SF, Seattle, NY or Atlanta. Defund the police policies there have often subtracted the “roadblocks and heavy police activity” from the equation. But, to be honest, safety concerns in some places within Chicago sound awfully familiar to folks in Tijuana…
