Tribes Rip Joe’s War On THEIR (S)Oil

Native American tribes dependent on fossil fuel resources tomahawk chop Biden’s green war on said wampum. “A war on coal is a war on Crow,” says one angry tribal leader. New policy or old cultural clash all over again?

As Fox News noted, many Native American tribes in all parts of America rely on fossil fuel production to sustain their way of life; and they are tired of being ignored when it comes to federal restrictions on their ability to develop those money-making resources on their own lands just because progressives want to turn the nation’s energy supply green overnight. The stumbling block as they see it: “The Dept of the Interior has repeatedly expressed support for boosting tribal sovereignty for Indigenous tribes, but has also pursued a climate agenda limiting fossil fuel production on federal lands and waters. “Air, water and energy are so foundational to our economy. I believe in the right that all property owners have to develop what belongs to them any way they want,” said Daniel Cardenas, chairman of the National Tribal Energy Assn and member of the Pit River Tribe.

The stakes are sure big. About 20% of the nation’s total oil & natural gas reserves and 30% of domestic coal reserves west of the Mississippi are on Native American lands & are estimated to be worth about $1.5 trillion, according to the Property & Environmental Research Center. So far, the new clash of environmental policies is exacerbating the old clash of cultures. And, maybe the frustrated tribes are left wondering whether today's Great White Father can be trusted to be fair?
