Trump Has Am Law 100 Lawyers Quaking

So white shoes law firms making fortunes on gov’t gigs are scrambling to avoid being Trump’s next target as the White House escalates its attacks on the legal industry for alleged bias, law fare & even racketeering?

Maybe the suggested “racketeering” theory is a stretch YET the WSJ minces few words in reporting the “President’s latest salvo calls for the attorney general to take harder line with firms litigating against the government in ways he thinks are unfair.” That, the story goes, comes “on the heels of a successful pressure campaign against law firm Paul Weiss,” and the obvious reality is that many of the Am Law 100 firms made a bundle of money in the four years Joe Biden was president and, btw, some helped the Democrats in Congress unsuccessfully impeach then No. 45 with now infamously discredited claims. Fast forward to compound the No. 47’s disgust with the nation’s wealthiest lawyers, he “broadly accused” them in a presidential memorandum of “abusing the legal system to challenge his policies, stymie immigration enforcement & pursue partisan causes.” He even “instructed AG Pam Bondi to seek sanctions in court against lawyers & firms who engage in ‘frivolous, unreasonable & vexatious litigation.’”

As if that weren’t enough, Mr. Trump also directed Bondi to review the litigation by lawyers against Uncle Sam in the last 8 years to see if more firms should be held accountable for their actions, including the “termination of government contracts held by firm clients.” It’s that last warning that got Paul Weiss’s attention & will make others quake since their lucrative $1000 per hour plus billings depend on those contracts & can make or break even the biggest big shot law firm.
