Trump Indictment As Goofy As It Gets?

Imagine Washington or Jefferson being posthumously indicted for owning slaves & you can get a sense of how goofy (in a sense) DOJ's indictment of ex-POTUS Trump over virtual Virginia peanuts is, especially after also doc-challenged Hillary & Joe keep skating. How can it not rip the country apart?

Not that Mr. Trump couldn’t have avoided this latest drama that may yet lead to a Constitutional crisis if he’d just given back the damn papers he never needed rather than do a Custer’s Last Stand based on some debatable notion of “I had the power to declassify them.” But, as Elon Musk argued what many Independents are concluding, Biden’s DOJ “risks losing the trust of the American public” by obviously not enforcing the law equally when it’s considered Joe has numerous boxes of sensitive government documents at locations all over the East Coast ... and Hillary used a kind of Veg-O-Matic to make gov’t docs she kept at home disappear. As one GOP Rep but oft-Trump critic said: “Make no mistake, this is about Biden & the Democrats taking out their No 1 political opponent before the 2024 election.” In short, the weaponization of DOJ against Trump, now & in other instances the past 6 yrs, couldn’t be clearer to a lot of voters.

That being said, as George Washington U professor Jonathan Turley noted to Fox News, the 37-count detailed indictment that was released Friday is "extremely damning" & is not going to be easy for Mr. Trump's newly-shuffled legal defense team to shoot down. The law is the law after all, the professor suggested, & Trump will not be able to blow off DOJ's MANY accusations in the courtroom, especially those claiming obstruction of justice, as he could at a political rally. Almost just as delusional may be the Democrats & their MSM allies. CNN mouthpiece Rachel Maddow, e.g., suggested Trump might exit the 2024 race in return for DOJ leniency. How goofy Is that? Then, there's of course the looming 2024 election while this all plays out. Any trial of Trump (along with any number of appeals) would likely happen after it, and if Trump wins the WH again, Turley observed, guess who’s going to “pardon” himself? And, for what kind of case again? In the end, Turley noted, we will likely end up with TWO Trump trials, one in a court of law & another in the court of public opinion.
