Trump’s Baked In “Lunacy” Problem
WSJ’s Gerard Baker may have come down with “Trump Derangement Syndrome” when he wrote “Trump Is Looking Like a Loser Again" & calls out No. 45 for a deluge of “false, obtuse or lunatic” remarks during recent presser. Then, again …
“We need to talk about Donald,” the columnist began. “We can complain all we like, as I have, that the coronation of Kamala Harris by deceitful Democrats & a complaisant media is depriving voters of any understanding of what they are being asked to vote for … But we can’t ignore the giant Republican problem either … I watched in its entirety and then … read the transcript of the press conference Donald Trump held at Mar-a-Lago. Houston, we have a problem.” Not that Mr. Trump doesn’t “deserve credit” for facing a hostile MSM, Baker said. Yet, by his calculation, “about one-third of Mr. Trump’s remarks fell into three categories: false, obtuse or lunatic.”
Well, then, by my calculation TWO-THIRDS of Mr. Trump’s comments were civil if not sugar coated. And, frankly, I could work the same calculus on Kamala & most politicians in the Swamp whenever they talk for more than 15 minutes. So, maybe Mr. Baker might want to take some of his criticism back, especially the one about “lunatic.” ON THE OTHER HAND, Mr. Trump’s totally predictable vitriol against his real and/or imagined enemies, many of which have nothing to do with the issues or his record, keeps playing into the hands of the Democrats claiming he is “divisive so don’t listen to a word he says.” Tuning out is exactly what many Independents are doing. And, then, there’s the foolish exaggeration doozies worthy of Joe Biden’s buying the lib press's suggestion that he's “the most tranformative president in history.” Case in point, as Baker pointed out, was Trump’s claim that the crowd at his Jan. 6, 2021 rally was as big as the one at Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream” speech in 1963. The Trump base might love it. But, Independents as well as many Republicans think it’s cringe worthy. And, the sum of it all is that it could cost him the White House again.
