Trump’s Vendetta Politics A Blank Boomerang?

WSJ lambasts Trump’s “vendetta politics” vs ex-cab member Chao, Mitch’s wife & Jan 6 critic, as polls show No 45 should again be kicking No 46’s butt but ain’t cause of his relentlessly mouthing cheap jabs at whoever.

Why in the world, begs as well as asks the paper’s editors, would “the former President smear Elaine Chao because her family is ethnic Chinese”? It wasn’t enough calling Ms. Chao’s husband, the Senate Minority Leader who helped defeat two impeachment efforts, “a broken-down hack” after criticizing Trump-backed Senate candidates. Mr. Trump had to take to “Truth Social” to refer to the GOP cabinet member he once called out for her “fantastic job” on his behalf, as “Coco;” and he suggested she’s “getting rich” off of business dealings with China, even though that charge was made by Dems when working for Trump & defeated. Btw, her real ethnic background is Taiwanese. The real reason for this personalized attack on Ms. Chao, the editors concluded, is the simple fact she dared to “resign from the cabinet after the Jan. 6 riot.”

The real result an unforced boomerang? The editors think the GOP’s ability to retake Congress in the mid-terms & Mr. Trump’s chances of regaining the WH in 2024 are jeopardized by such personalized shots & ongoing evidence he can’t just shut up when he sees something he doesn’t like as if working the CNN news anchor desk. The real problem: Too many American voters, esp independents, don’t like how Mr. Trump too often reacts to what he don’t like. That’s arguably one big reason he’s “ex” POTUS? As a separate WSJ news story points out, the Dems are gaining traction in the voter polls, despite a piss poor record by a dithering Biden, & another says a majority of Americans don’t mind DOJ’s raid on Mr. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home. It's time to keep the eye on the ball, tiger, not personalities?
