As Mr. Trump’s motorcade pulled up to the federal building to be deposed as ordered, it was, of course, interesting to see what the former president would be asked and say. NY AG Letitia James, a Democrat, has been on a crusade to somehow prove Mr. Trump & his company have made false representations to banks, the tax man & insurers about the value of his business assets. But, legal observers have noted she should have had the goods on him by now, i.e., if there were any to be had. It turned out Mr. Trump’s reply was good yet plenty. In a statement he announced on the advice of counsel he’d assert his constitutional right NOT to respond: “When your family, your company & all the people in your orbit have become the targets of an unfounded, politically motivated Witch Hunt supported by lawyers, prosecutors & the Fake News Media, you have no choice …”

Mr. Trump, trust me, you just did much better than Col. Jessup. Wasn’t it in that climactic moment in “A Few Good Men” that defense atty Lt Kaffee’s only chance of vindicating his client was by getting Col. Jessup to incriminate himself; and, to do that, he had to take the huge risk of putting the decorated Col. on the stand so as to trick him by playing to his ego? “You want answers?” Jessup asked in reply to Kaffee-esque badgering. “I want the truth!” Kaffee shouted back. “You can’t handle the truth!” Jessup shouted back ala Mr. Trump on Wednesday and, then, let his defense counsel do the rest of the talking. And so, then in Hollywood & now in NY presidential history was made.
