US Sanctions On Russian Oil Biden’s Catch 22 Option?

What if the WSJ is right in arguing that the US ending its Russian oil buys is a slap on the wrist & more effective in inflicting economic pain on Putin would be to sanction his entire oil industry?

In their “Hitting Putin Where It Hurts by Sanctioning Russia’s Oil Exports,” the editors say “a mere US ban on Russian oil imports is a distraction from the real issue.” That is, while “American politicians are suddenly scrambling to ban the US purchase of Russian oil,” it’s a “largely symbolic gesture that ducks the main issue: whether to sanction all Russian energy exports.”

Of course, Joe is faced with the Catch 22 that if he does what the WSJ wants him to do, today’s $130 per barrel of oil and rapidly escalating inflation on produce as well as retail prices could get even worse; that is, assuming Putin retaliates with economic countermeasures of his own, especially, e.g., targeting the EU dependent upon Russia for a lion’s share of its energy to meet “environmental” goals demanded by its progressives.
