Vaunted Vince Vaughn Verily Vents

Vince Vaughn blames Hollywood execs for no longer making his R-rated comedies cause “They don’t want to get fired”? Might uncon(Vince)d realize his smart-ass schtick is passé & it’s time to learn how to act?

Let’s give Mr. Vaughn credit for making a series of hits he suggests were based on his sex appeal. The r-rated argument holds some weight, but no one genre guarantees an actor prophylactic success once the original buzz around it wears off, gets boring, as in his case. According to the Fox News story, Vaughn told a Hot One’s audience he “believes Hollywood executives [now] ‘overthink’ making films like he’s made in the past.” Maybe it’s because they want to make money? Maybe it’s because HE overthinks his own appeal? Instead, he told host Sean Evans, “And it’s like, it’s crazy, you get these rules, like, if you did geometry & you said 87 degrees was a right angle, then all your answers are messed up, instead of 90 degrees.” Dunno what that Word Salad ala Kamala Harris means, but it does track Vaughn’s early success persona as a wise-cracking jokester who thinks he knows everything & it gets him in hot water.

One thing’s for sure: It’s been largely Vaughn’s Bombs Away. Think Be Cool (2005), Domestic Disturbance (2001), Starsky & Hutch (2004), The Cell (2000), The Break Up (2006), South of Heaven, West of Hell (2000) & Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Show (2008). But, we’re told by Fox that Vaughn remains “optimistic” & Hollywood will eventually see the wisdom in letting him “push the envelope” once again with r-rated films. Perhaps. Maybe Vaughn could also make a comeback by pushing the boundaries of his own talent & took on movies about things today’s audiences want to pay for.
