Wahlberg Urges Us To “Pray Up” With Rosary

Mark Wahlberg asked fans to “pray the rosary together to find peace” & that’s great, yet Mary surely takes solo devotions as Jesus also reminds the Father especially “rewards” prayer done in “secret.” How best to pray, then, is an age-old dilemma.

As the Catholic Hollywood actor recently said in a video message (reported by Fox): “I’ve been getting a lot of messages from people who have been praying every day and finding peace. And especially sending wonderful messages about doing the rosary with me on the Hallow app … Let’s do the rosary together and stay prayed up …”

Certainly, the kind of group prayer and meditation urged by Mr. Wahlberg & Hallow is a foundation of most if not all religious organizations and it should bring great solace to all who participate. Yet, does that mean group think is always the ticket into God’s heart or that an individual communion with Him is somehow the Lesser? Jesus, after all, often sought privacy to pray to His Father. Moreover, we’re clearly admonished, e.g., in Matthew’s Gospel: “When you pray … pray to the Father in secret and what the Father sees in private will be rewarded openly … do not use vain repetitions as the Gentiles do for they think they will be heard for their many words …” So, maybe it’s the SPIRIT, not the FORM, that is most likely to bring God’s wonderful Peace?
