What’d Burning Tesla Battery Say 2 Ian?
What’s the old saw about never putting an EV in the tub while taking a bath? Florida officials warn some electric vehicles are exploding from water damage after Hurricane Ian disabled a “ton” of ‘em in repair...
As Fox News notes, Florida “firefighters have battled a number of fires caused by EV batteries” that had been waterlogged from Hurricane Ian. As such, the battery owners are at risk of corrosion that, in turn, could lead to the fires being reported. Tweeted Jimmy Patronis, the state’s fire marshal: “As those batteries corrode, fires start. That’s a new challenge that our firefighters haven’t faced before, at least, on this scale.” The exact number, however, is unknown at this time.
Naturally, it takes “special training and understanding” of EVs to make sure these unique kinds of fires are put out quickly and safetly. Mr. Patronis published one video of firefighters in Naples, Florida pouring “hundreds of gallons of water” dousing a burning Tesla.
