Why Does UFO ‘Mystery’ Drone On?

WSJ’s Holman Jenkins marvels at how “inexplicable” UFO sightings always seem to happen near US military bases & wonders whether Uncle Sam’s own Star Wars-like drones & PR antics aren’t driving the lingering “mystery”.

In his “UFO ‘Mystery’ Shouldn’t Drag On,” Mr. Jenkins posits, what if “some questions are put forward to distract and not because answers are genuinely sought”? He notes, for instance, how the most recent wave of UFO sightings & Congressional “hearings” on them were triggered 5 years ago based mostly on a “whistleblower” who basically “broke his oath” and “leaked two videos of alleged sightings by Navy pilots.” And, the UFOs always, admittedly, “appear to demonstrate advanced technology” that defies logic or known science …” Sort of like drones playing footsie with us (and the Russkies or Chinese Communists). And, so often near a military base like the Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach ... or, the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station a few miles north. Still, the “mystery” goes on & on & on?

The cynical Mr. Holman might NOT be on to something. But, he concludes that “Something is … clearer with the passage of time and the non-emergence of evidence from other sources: The UFO commotion has largely been sustained by the US defense establishment. Especially absurd is a situation in which unclassified reports assure us UFOs are a big mystery when the classified versions may know exactly what they are.”
