Why Illegal Border Crossings 2 Hit 2 Million
As Border Patrol has made record 1.8 million arrests this year & agents say “we’re apprehending people left & right,” migrants tell WSJ they’ll keep trying to enter USA illegally for jobs since there’s no penalty for trying. Huh?
Is this one for “Ripley’s Believe It or Not” or What? As the paper reports, the recent pandemic and labor shortage has obviously helped fuel the “supply and demand” scenario contributing to increased border crossing from Mexico into the US. But, there appears to be a more surprising factor behind the surge that’s expected to reach the 2 million mark by the end of September: “A US policy to deter migration … appears to have backfired. At the outset of the pandemic, the Trump administration implemented a little-known health law from the 1940s called Title 42 that allowed it to quickly expel any migrants at the border on the grounds they might bring Covid-19 into the US. The Biden administration recently attempted to end the policy, but it was blocked by a federal court.”
The suggested problem in BOTH administration’s approach to securing our southern border: Neither provides for any PENALTIES for trying to crash into the USA for whatever reason. While the Obama-Biden “Catch & Release” approach is said to proactively encourage illegal immigration, so perhaps does the Title 42 “Catch & Send Back” approach. Of course, both administrations have been stuck with the broken system CONGRESS has refused to fix. Believe it or not …
