Wild West Safer Than Wild West Chicago?

It may be an “inconvenient truth” but progressives calling for more gun controls in wake of recent mass shootings must deal with data showing states with higher rate of gun ownership do not correlate with more gun murders.

For example, Fox News has compiled FBI data from 2019 tracking murders by various means per 100K population for most states, as well as Rand Corps data reciting the percentage of households with at least one firearm in 2016. The bottom line conclusion: You were less likely to be shot dead in the Wild West than the Wild West Side of Chicago.

“Gun ownership is higher in states with fewer restrictions and homicide rates in these states are [same or] lower,” George Mason U Prof Emerita Malcolm agreed. “People can protect themselves.”
