Will GOP Pass DOGE’s Donkey Pig Test?

The acid test for DOGE's effort in addressing the Swamp’s fraud, waste & abuse will not come when the hysterical Dems get laryngitis, but when piggish GOPers start wailing about cuts to THEIR pet projects.

At least, so suggests WSJ columnist Kimberley Strassel. As she recently pray told, “Lord, make me chaste, but not yet. Especially when it comes to my home state …” She sheepishly added this explanation: All “lawmakers want to cut waste, fraud and abuse – except when it’s their own pork.” She noted how “Republicans are thrilled by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency – on camera. Yet their lustful hearts are already plotting how to ensure the efficiency god doesn’t demand any change of their own souls.” Take for example, she says, Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who already warned DOGE to “steer clear” of her state’s “inglorious tradition of hoovering up federal taxpayer dollars” via congressionally created & supposedly untouchable earmarks.

According to Strassel, “What everyone knows – even if most won’t say – is that the ‘waste, fraud & abuse’ that DOGE is tackling is gravy. The easy first targets are the woke, indefensible yet “discretionary” spends which make up a “fraction” of any agency budget. Diversity & equity contracts. International grants for LGBTQ operas or comic books. Leases for buildings with low to zero occupancy.” Yet, Strassel reminds, the “real money” pit still lies in Congress’s grubby little hands … “either by its allocating or earmarking discretionary funds or … by allowing mandatory funding to run on autopilot.” So, when DOGE digs into THAT pile of Swamp manure, will GOPers in Congress see eye to eye or start screaming like a stuck Democratic pig?
