Wordsmith Mayorkas Not Impressing CBP

CBP’s June Immigration report reveals 200K encounters, including terrorist sightings, for FOURTH month in row, yet DHS Sec. Mayorkas insists “border is secure” if not “safe”. Well, at least he knows the two aren’t the same.

Speaking at a recent Aspen Security Forum, Mr. Mayorkas argued “safe and secure are two different words.” For instance, he explained, “There are smugglers that operate on the Mexican side of the border and placing one’s life in their hands is not safe.” Got it. I watch Netflix, too.

But, Border Patrol agents retorted in talking to Fox see the Secretary’s wordsmithing differently. “Hundreds of thousands crossing every month is not the definition of secure,” one agent said. “They are liars & anyone who believes them are fools.” Brandon Judd, President of the National Border Patrol Council suggested the CBP’s 200K figure may actually be an understatement, “pointing to not only the drug flows into the US but also the number of migrants that get past agents” undetected.
