Xi’s “Communist Chinese Party Way”

So PRC’s President Xi rolled his way to an third term that will span more than a decade? And the unprecedented longevity was paved by showing “sick” old guy predecessor to the door … Just “The Communist Way”?

As the WSJ noted, “Xi Jinping extended his rule over the Communist Party and will lead China into a second decade, after nudging his rivals into retirement and positioning loyalists for promotion into the top echelons of power … A third term for Mr. Xi upends succession norms designed to prevent the return of one-man rule.” Putin couldn’t have made the “transition” more smoothly. Nor could a Stalin or Mao.

But, the almost comical charade in which Xi pulled off his power grab was perhaps best illustrated during the weekend’s official closing of the “party congress” that rubber stamped it. As the WSJ noted, “that’s when Mr. Xi’s 79-year-old predecessor, Hu Jintao, was helped out of his chair and led out of the hall midway thorugh the proceedings. Xinhua News Agency’s Twitter account later said that Mr. Hu “was not feeling well during the session.” Sure. And, if we see an 80-year-old Joe Biden help 82-year-old Nancy Pelosi to the Capitol Hill door after the November mid-terms, we’ll know old Joe is paving his own road to 2024 … “The DC Swamp Way.”
